9/23 to 9/27/17 The Dordogne

We took a trip to the Dordogne - home of John's favorite fictional character - Bruno, Chief of Police.

We took the train from Aix to Brive, rented a car and drove to Sarlat.  Gorgeous drive.  Lots of hills and hairpin turns.  It is starting to feel a lot like Fall.  The area seems very prosperous with many beautiful homes and farms.

La Roque Gageac:

(Took a little boat tour)

One of FIVE castles on the river:

Tom Marier's New Venture (?):

The Rapunzel House:

Half of this home was lost when a part of the stone cliff collapsed in the late 80's.

On to Domme:

Lascaux:

Site of the cave drawings found in 1940.  They have created an exact replica of the cave housed in this building.  Mold spores from shoes and vapor from human breath were degrading the paintings so after about 15 years, the caves were closed to the public.  Now, only scientists and technicians are allowed in.

Our little patio in Sarlat:

This cemetery in Sarlat caught our eye.  This is the only cemetery we have ever seen with little greenhouses over the graves.  At first we thought it was a nursery!

Almost too pretty to eat:

In the large super market - kegs of beer!
