10/26-29/17 Salzburg

We took a short trip to Salzburg, flying from Marseille to Munich and then taking the train from Munich to Salzburg.  The airport in Munich was probably the most beautiful airport we've ever seen.  Immaculate!  You could eat off the floor - really!  It was a 45 minute ride on the local train to the main train station and then a little over an hour to Salzburg.

Munich Train Station

I wish I had taken some pictures of the station on Salzburg.  It has been renovated within the last year and is really quite nice.

We arrived after 8 pm, took a taxi to our apartment on the Steingasse, and then out for a quick dinner. From the street (and most every place in Salzburg) we had a great view of the castle.

Since it was late, not too many places open.  We managed to find a cute little cafe.

The next day was cold and rainy so I wasn't allowed to go out.  John visited the cathedral and had a walk around the old town. I had a cozy day with a good book and great pastries.

One of eight organs in the cathedral:

There are 1776 diamonds in the monstrance.  Yikes!  As well as rubies and sapphires.

Saturday arrived and no rain!  Yay!  So out to explore the city.  It is definitely Christmas time in Austria:

So many beautiful shops.  I don't think we missed a one!

Little bit of Halloween thrown in:

Lunch at the Schubert Tea Shop.  Very charming!

Wondering what to do with those old jeans?:

Then more sightseeing:

This is probably the closest I'll ever get to Prada if John's shopping with me:

Bucephalus:

The dirndl.  Wildly expensive.  Tempting, but as John says - not exactly "a thing" in Arizona!

Cemetery - plots are leased.  If you miss a payment - out you go!!!

Oh no!!!! Somebody ran over the running man!

Saturday evening we went to a concert at the Mirabel Palace.  Very special evening:

Famous cherub decorated staircase in palace:

Nice walk back through the city:

Sunday am we left the cold and clouds behind for the sunshine and blue skies of Provence!
